The Ladyboys of Bangkok is a UK-based production company that brings actual dancers from Thailand to showcase their performances on stages around the world. This Fringe World we are lucky to see them performing on our stage at the Aurora Spiegeltent in The Pleasure Garden at Russell Square.

A mix of glamour and humour The Ladyboys of Bangkok put on a dazzling performance with elaborate costumes, hypnotic dance moves, hilarious skits and crowd interaction, all to the tune of your favourite dance floor bangers.

The dancers took to the stage in exquisite traditional golden Thai gowns and headdresses, with their first piece being an invitation to the show as they performed Welcome to Thailand with the grace and delicacy of traditional Thai dance.

From the traditional to the modern, the dancers returned to the spotlight for a high-energy routine to Lady Gaga’s Abracadabra. The magnificent costumes amazed as they changed between different dance floor hits, from Destiny’s Child’s Survivor and La Bouche’s Be My Lover to Alannah Myles’ Black Velvet, plus all the drag show staples you would expect, from It’s Raining Men to Dancing Queen, with some added musical theatre nods to Chicago and Moulin Rouge.

Interspersed with the big dance numbers were the comedy breaks, one a Carmen Miranda routine where the performer preyed upon audience members to join with them on stage shaking their maracas. In other breaks they returned as Tina Turner, performing Simply the Best and Nutbush City Limits as they interacted and teased the crowd; one skit in particular, where an audience member was invited on stage for a lap dance, evoked some riotously hysterical moments.

Glamorous performers, stunning costuming and a hands-in-the-air soundtrack—The Lady Boys of Bangkok was a roaring good time with the right mix of genres, humour and dance to keep you fully entertained right up until the rapturous encore. Catch The Ladyboys of Bangkok while you can. It is a great starter to wet your lips in the world of Fringe.
