It was a cold, rainy morning at Cog Hill Farm, and the day did not go as planned. With frigid air moving into Alabama and steady rain on and off, Brooke works through the morning chores while keeping an eye on the animals and the changing conditions around the farm.
After the heavy rain, something unusual appeared in the front yard that we have never seen before. It looks plant-based, possibly caused by the weather, and showed up almost overnight. Along with investigating this mystery, the morning includes feeding the cows, pigs, geese, goats, emus, and chickens, putting out hay, gathering eggs, and stocking the farm egg stand for the community.
Brooke also shares updates from the garden, harvesting calendula flowers for future use, and talks about making simple food choices that have been helping her feel better. This video is a real look at everyday farm life, adapting plans to the weather, and taking care of animals no matter the conditions.

This video was so great Brooke! We are having a deadly storm here and I got caught driving in it, it threw my family and my car in the ditch. It is snowing and blowing snow at 100 km/h and driving home on the highway I came to a whiteout where I couldn’t s e and threw our car into the ditch. My family and I are ok but I’m very shook up and can’t sleep. So thank you for this video tha simply put a smile on my face. But that smile was so very needed this morning! We had rain for a few days and now it turned into snow.

My chicks that I bought in May last year finally started laying. Four of them and I’m getting 2-4 eggs a day. Of course I’m in New Hampshire so it’s cold and they don’t tend to lay in the winter. I’m very happy to have eggs.

Brooke-Black-green algae on the ground is often cyanobacteria (like Nostoc) or other algae forming a slimy, green film in wet, compacted, or shady spots, which dries into a black, crusty, water-repellent layer that hinders grass growth by blocking air and water. To control it, improve drainage, aeration, and sunlight, reduce compaction, and establish a thicker, healthier lawn to outcompete the algae by correcting underlying issues like poor soil, drainage, and excessive moisture.

Well I hope you know that for a lot of us this video was very interesting. You don’t realize how talented and amazing you are. To go out and look over the farm and see what needs to be done and simply go fulfill all of those tasks with confidence. Yes this was an interesting video.

Brooke, I have thought about what you are saying and trying to figure my own way forward. I have RA, SJOGRENS and Thyroid and take synthroid and I can not keep on with the list. I am considering going gluten free. The 6 different doctors I see have never suggested it.😢
