It might seem like a good idea to pull out plants – especially big rooted ones like broccoli. But don’t!
Instead, cut them off at the base. Those roots will break down and add organic matter to your soil. More soil will stay in your beds, and you won’t disturb the microorganisms in your soil. It’s better for everyone!
Need to plant right away? You can usually tuck that small seed or seedling around that root, and as it grows, the roots and stem will decompose.

Yeah, try that with bull thistle or any other stubborn weed!
Sometimes you have to pull tomato plants or others that can get root knot nematodes to see if you have them in your beds. Other than that I agree with you.
Microbes 💚👍
❤
Thanks, I was about to snatch all of them up🎉🎉🎉
Can you immediately plant in the same square or does it need a month or so of down time?!
I'm visiting AZ, any suggestions for garden visits in the Phoenix area?
Thank you for sharing mam
I followed this advice last year. Cut close to the ground. My broccoli raised bed is full of last years plants, growing lots of new but smaller sprouted heads.
This actually very time consuming as well.
What about weeds 😫
Unless they have diseases.
And the microorganisms and their systems are intact
I read a book recently about soil health and it changed my perspective on pulling plants
Also plants like beans have the nitrogen nodules on them
Please keep in mind that sevin also kills good bugs.
If your sugar water becomes cloudy in the hummingbird feeder you need to take it down and pour out the old liquid and rinse the feeder out. Cloudy water means it has soured and isn't edible for the hummingbirds, it will make them sick. Here in Florida we need to change it just like @keithmar suggested regularly.
The wind chimes are a nice addition.
Kale is a perennial. Cut it back, but not all the way down. Mine come back every year.
