Aethos Sardinia
From one of Europe’s new-generation hotel groups, with its emphasis on immersion in local culture, this recently opened resort offers an appealing panorama of La Maddalena Archipelago from its covetable Costa Smeralda vantage point. Located in Cannigione, a former fishing village, the hotel brings a fresh aesthetic to the island, blending chic salmon tones, red stuccoes and a palette of blues across simple furniture shapes, producing unfussy but quietly luxurious interiors. Rooms each feature terraces or balconies; while six 2- or 3-bedroom suites open to a private garden, terrace and freshwater pool, ideal for families. Dining comes courtesy of the hotel’s restaurant, ZAÏA, and focuses on local cooking techniques and ingredients. Yacht trips and sunset cruises along the coastline, e-bike island explorations, horseback riding and kayaking all connect guests to the local landscape. And for those looking to disconnect completely, meditative sound healing and yoga sessions promise a restorative reset.
Rooms from €390 per night including breakfast. Open from 15 April – 10 October 2026. Aethos.com.
Le Dune Piscinas
The magnificent sand dunes of Sardinia’s lesser-explored Costa Verde are the setting for this contemporary designed hideaway, once a 19th century mineral repository. Known for its untamed natural beauty, this spot, on the island’s southeast coast, is a haven for nature lovers and those seeking distance from the madding crowd. The magic lies in the contrast between the wildness of the ever-shifting sandy landscape on the doorstep and the sense of fortifying cosiness within. Just twenty eight rooms lend a sense of intimacy. Each are designed to mirror the landscape and nod to the region’s mining past: think wooden beams, marble floors, simple wrought iron beds, Sardinian textiles and one-of-a-kind art. A former wagon track leads to the spa, comprising sauna and treatment rooms overlooking the dunes, plus there’s a pool and a private beach equipped with sun loungers. A beach bar, two restaurants and a library means that venturing further afield for exploration is a bonus but by no means necessary. A car however, is essential.
