Hello everyone,

Three days ago I went bonsai hunting and found this Portulacaria afra for a ridiculous price — €14. The plant looked very healthy and, at least in my opinion, was already quite large.

Two days ago I did my first repotting. I managed to get 5 individual plants from this bush.

Did I do it correctly? I guess we’ll find out in a couple of weeks.

Now I need to think about how I want these trees to look in the future.

Any styling suggestions, any feedback or tips are welcome, since it is my first reporting.

  1. There’s really nothing to style at this point. You are going to need to let them grow to get some trunk thickness, unless you are planning very small bonsai.

I would let those grow for at least a year or two and get some new branches before you style or cut anything off (then you have even more!). Those tend to grow pretty slow but they look nice when they get thick trunks with branches. Right now they are just branches cause theyre young though.
They like a wde shallow pot but those will work for now while the little ones grow.
All you need is time, and crazy stupid amounts of light.
    Good starters though.
