Monty Don shared a devastating photograph of his once perfectly manicured garden currently flooded after taking a battering from Storm Chandra in a candid home update.
On his Instagram page, Monty posted a video of his golden retriever, Ned, playing in the water that reached nearly as high as the canine’s head while enjoying time outside his Herefordshire home.
Monty typed: “After a very stormy night, the floods are rising and coming into the garden and bringing with them brown, muddy water. However, it’s not all bad for everyone.”
One wrote: “Glad to see Ned is enjoying himself.” Another replied: “Your dog is absolutely gorgeous.” While a third added: “He is living his best life right there.”
It comes just days after the gardening expert shared that his daschund Peggy died just “short of her 16th birthday”, making her the third dog of Monty’s to have died over the past six years, after his golden retrievers Nigel and Nell both died within three years of each other.
In an emotional post, Monty revealed: “She died as she had lived, gently and without fuss. She was eccentric, quirky, infinitely gentle and loving and will be missed terribly. She is buried in the coppice alongside Nigel and Nell and the other dogs.”
Monty has been a much-loved TV favourite since he became the lead presenter for the BBC flagship programme Gardeners’ World between 2003 and 2008. He then resumed the role in 2011 and continues to front the show.
The success of Gardeners’ World led to the establishment of the Gardeners’ World Live show and BBC Gardeners’ World magazine. It inspired other gardening shows such as Ground Force and Home Front in the Garden.
The first episode of Gardeners’ World came from the Oxford University Botanic Gardens, but over the years the programme has had many presenters who have featured their own gardens. These have included Percy Thrower, Geoff Hamilton, Alan Titchmarsh, Arthur Billitt and current presenter Monty.
Monty often shares candid photos of his stunning garden at Longmeadow Cottage with social media and fans regularly compliment him on how pristine he keeps the grounds despite his busy work schedule which will see him soon embark on a UK tour.
