I bought this moss artwork around three years ago. I never had to care much for it, only watering it a bit maybe twice or three times a year. I was always soft and full. Now, it's been a month that it is drying completely and I cannot even touch it or it breaks and turns to dust. I've been watering it everyday, sometimes twice a day and I tried placing it in different places in the flat but nothing helps. It gets soft and full once watered but it starts drying immediately.

Has anyone had this happen to their moss before? Is there anything I can do save it?

It is true that this is the first time it deals with heating in wintertime though, so the flat is always comfortably warm (but not hot). I can't find any other explanation to why it dries.

This doesnt look like moss, more like lichens to me. And comming from the fact that you stated you only had to water it 2-3 times a year i would guess it was never alive but rather painted to look green. My only bet would be to soak it for a couple days to see if it goes back to the way you know it otherwise i would be happy about not having to water it anymore and try to enjoy its dusty goodnes

I’m sorry, but this clearly just dried plant material painted green. Most people keep moss or lichen in terrariums or water them at least weekly to keep them moist. It is probably brittle now because there is no longer enough moisture from the last watering or in the surrounding air to keep it soft. You can keep live lichen and moss you just need to get live lichen or moss and keep it consistently moist.

That’s not real moss haha 😆

I just bought a bundle of Supermoss off Amazon. Seems to be the cheapest good quality nowadays.
