I can’t totally tell, it looks like the plants are directly below the eves of the roof… but maybe if you moved them closer to the house, they will be more protected from the element.
Its better to mix native soil with whatever mix you used.. the soil doesnt matter depending on the location but it looks like they get plenty of shade and doubt they experience many strong winds. Instead of thinking of 3 spots for plants … use that entire strip… an on-going piece… much easier to work with imo then working in containers or spots
