Two people were taken to hospital after emergency services responded to a crash in Tameside.

Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the smash on Ladbrooke Road on Sunday evening (January 25) at around 6.30pm. The road was cordoned off at the junction with Sycamore Crescent as crews descended on the scene.

Pictures showed the front end of two cars left badly damaged, with one smashed car ending up in the middle of the road near a roundabout. The other ended in a garden after ploughing through a hedge.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed this morning (Monday) that officers responded to reports of a two-vehicle collision. Two people – the drivers of each car – were taken to hospital from the scene.

Their injuries were thankfully not believed to be serious, the force spokesperson added. No further details have been released at this stage.

The road was shut off into yesterday evening as investigations were carried out within the cordon. Moments after the collision, residents reporting hearing the police helicopter overhead.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said on Sunday night: “Shortly before 6.30pm on Sunday 25 January, one fire engine from Stalybridge Community Fire Station was called to attend a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on Ladbrooke Road, Ashton-under-Lyne.

“Our crew arrived quickly and worked alongside colleagues from Greater Manchester Police to make the area safe. Firefighters were in attendance for approximately one hour.”
