The Garden Club of North Ridgeville has spent more than 40 years bringing together local residents who share an interest in gardening, education and community involvement.
The club meets once a month, most often on the second Tuesday, at various locations throughout the area.
Many meetings take place at Sandy Ridge Reservation and include a featured speaker, followed by a short business meeting and time to socialize.
“We meet monthly, and each month we have a speaker for a program,” said Terri Marquis, president of The Garden Club of North Ridgeville. “Some months, we meet at Sandy Ridge, and other months we do field trips or garden tours.”
Those trips include visits to local nurseries, Lorain County Metro Parks locations and member gardens, as well as a home garden tour planned this year in Wellington.
The club also hosts an annual Christmas party and participates in community activities throughout the year.
One of the club’s primary fundraisers is an annual plant and bake sale held the third Saturday in May at South Central Park.
Funds raised help support the club’s maintenance of five flower beds throughout North Ridgeville, including one at the former Town Hall and beds at four local schools.
In addition to beautification efforts, the club donates to local organizations including North Ridgeville Community Care, the Lorain Public Library System North Ridgeville Branch and Lorain County Metro Parks.
The group also regularly enters a float in the North Ridgeville Corn Festival parade and decorates a holiday tree at the library.
“Our goal is to give back to the community,” Marquis said. “We want to stay active and involved.”
The club’s next meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Feb. 10 at Sandy Ridge Reservation, 6195 Otten Road in North Ridgeville, where Lorain County Metro Parks naturalist Josh Michalski will present a program titled “Natural Ohio.”
Visitors and new members are welcome to attend.
