In today’s video filmed on a cold January day I share some changes and evolutions to my garden design and remove some fence panels to form what will be the brand new (fire pit) entrance! The garden looks completely different when it’s finally opened up and now my new garden project can really begin! I talk about my 2026 new garden transformation plans, changes to my new garden paths, Yew hedging ideas and discuss my new 3 bay composting project and apple tree pruning on a garden walk with our dog Remi. Exciting stuff!

Hopefully this news keeps you happy haha! Just wanted to say sorry if you’ve commented recently and I haven’t yet replied! Life is a little busy currently but I will get back to you all ASAP and read all new comments as soon as I get to them so there’s a chance I’ve worked your ideas and suggestions into the garden plans already…
👏🏼 it’s going to look great! Much more flow. Don’t be in a hurry to get rid of or move the well constructed poly tunnel, especially as you grow your plant collection, and don’t block the far end of it by palms as you’ll be blocking out all that lovely free sun light. You could put another door in that end to make it accessible from both ends of the garden. Excited for the next instalment!
Loving the progress and the possibilities. My question is do you have a mower to keep the new area under control until your design is finished?
Looking forward to all your future videos of your dreams unfolding!😊 So happy for you!!!🌴
Looks great George. I like the informal route through the fire pit and the desire for a more formal, grander and more practical route more through the middle of the combined space next to a new large moved greenhouse. A great longer term plan. Design changes also look good!
Having had a freestanding greenhouse and a lean-to greenhouse, the difference in temperature in the winter, especially if you want to overwinter exotics, is a no brainer. No, they are not as attractive, but they are very practical if you have an appropriate space!
Very exciting George! I like the change of the 2 paths rather than the one turf path. What if those 3 yuccas were kept in the same pattern but in the new garden?
Cant wait to see you blend your two gardens together! As a tree enthusiast, I'd love to throw a few tree species around for you to consider, but please take it with a grain of salt. I'd love to see a Wollemi pine and a monkey puzzle in your garden. Both beautiful, Gondwanan-looking species that don't have large dominating canopies/crowns that overtake a space. They do well in your British climate. They pair really nicely together with tree ferns. Not everyone's cup of tea. If you're looking for a fast growing, absolutely massive statement trees, you could always go with a coastal redwood, dawn redwood or a giant sequoia. I have about 20 more, but I'll stop there. Good luck with all those suggestions! 😂
I would do differently, design-wise… but then everyone has their own ideas. That's what makes this so fun! It is so interesting seeing someone talk it all out and develop their own spaces from a blank canvas. I've never been so happy for someone that I've never met. I can tell you truly enjoy this and think we'd get a long great if we lived on the same continent. In a garden of your size and length, I'd consider maybe 3 compost areas. (one at each end, one in the middle, near the future greenhouse) You've got a huge potential for ingredients, and you'll get tired of hauling everything to one end. Just my thoughts. Is that a commercial greenhouse to your northeast? I would love to live that close to a retail garden center!
Very exciting times George looking forward to see it happen
Curious about how the plans work out!
Subscribed to follow!
I agree about your polytunnel – it would be such a waste of a terrific space if you didn’t use it whilst it’s in a good condition. I like all of your ideas for your new space. I think it’s only going to add to the beauty of your existing garden. Looking forward to watching your journey. Xxx
Great vid George as always. Can't wait to follow your progress 🙂
Brilliant update, George! I feel a bit of an idiot now but until this video I assumed your new garden was a sort of dog leg from the original one. I now understand it’s more of a straight extension at the back? You really haven’t taken long to crack on with things – very impressive! Would make a good video to get Mark round to give his thoughts. I’m not sure how useful that’d be for you but it’d be very entertaining for everyone else! 😂 Tom
I agree with Yorkshire Chris. I really like the path through the firepit. It makes the firepit feel more exciting too.
I reckon that garden needs a koi pond 👍
Take fence out by Polytunnel, tick. New path, pretty well by the 2 fence posts left in, tick. You're certainly going to be a busy lad.
Hartley Botanic Greenhouse would look good in your garden.
Please put more adds on your channel and we will support.
Looks like your garden is becoming a full time job!!!
the two paths option is the right call, one for having fun and exploring the garden and the other for creating the garden, makes total sense
The sunshine that poured through the end of the garden after removing the fence – lovely. I, too, am a real fan of Dan Pearson. Have you heard of Wildside Garden, Yelverton, Devon? If not, it might be of interest to you.
