A carport frame with greenhouse plastic is what i have and it works for the price ! Fans are really necessary, min of 2
What kind of extreme wind can they usually tolerate? I'm north of Lake Erie, and we've been getting hurricane-force winds on occasion the last few years. I've been considering a greenhouse but that concerns me
How much did that greenhouse cost in total?
Michigan doesn’t get much snow? What? I’m confused in Michigan.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts & advice.. 😊😊
Your titles are fear based, how about some joy based for a change?
2:20 i'm totally speculating here, but i wonder if, since the round top greenhouses don't have a "break" point in the center, snow that lands at the center (at the high point) of the roof basically have essentially a flat surface to rest rather than slide off. once you have a bit of snow, more and more accumulates around/on top, weighing down that middle area and growing that flattened zone.
the "gothic style" has that ridge running along the middle that makes it very difficult for snow to accumulate right at that central point. snow that lands anywhere on that roof (except an almost impossibly narrow ridge in the middle) immediately wants to slide off.
super helpful video, here in a2 i'm thinking about building a greenhouse in my backyard and the timing of this video was uncanny!
There is no way in a city back yard I can use one of those big hoop house probably no bigger than 3×4 or 4×5 is probably the largest I could use, just big enough to start some plants. ❤️🙏
Like in Minnesota!! We got 10 inches here and in the passed we’ve gotten over 2 ft within a 24 hours!! We really need to figure out what greenhouse that will work for us!!😊
When I build my dream greenhouse, I want geothermal tubing and an aquaponic system that is temperature controlled with water going through tubing from a "Thermodynamic Solar Water heater". My goal is to create a year round tropical climate greenhouse in the pacific northwest.
you Know you dont build a FLAT roof right most DIY put a slope to the roof bro
What about a lean-to shape? I was thinking about situating one about a foot or two from my house (so that it's not "attached" which would require a permit, but the house protects the north wall.) It won't be nearly as many sq. ft., but should shed snow well, I think.
Wish I seen this last year. Im upstate NY, my little greenhouse's top panels are broken already!
Passive solar greenhouses are the way to go. I guess those would be considered a flat wall. All the greenhouses available in the USA are basic junk
Use a roof rake. Works great!
My greenhouse is my opensided livestock trailer. Not selling beasts until spring. Wrap it with plastic, install heater, BOOM, greenhouse!
Love my semi gable! 30×50. It grows so much food and so many plants. Ive had mine for 20 years now and have changed the plastic once. Love love love it!
I live in the desert of Arizona. A shade house does wonders in the summer. My shade house becomes a green house in the winter It's great to grow your warmer crops. I bought my materials and accessories from Bootstrap. There a good company and great customer service
I grow my warm season plants in a DIY Green house in the winter in the summer it becomes my shade house My supply were purchased at Bootstrap It's a good company and have great customer service. No snow here I'm in Arizona.
Luke, I'd love some … lessons… on how to use a greenhouse. I have one from Amazon that was a couple hundred dollars, but I've never actually been successful with using it.
Michigan doesn't get a lot of snow? I thought they were famous for it
Yep. My round top collapsed
thanks, i needed this
Snow load is not a factor in the south. Home versus commercial use is a big difference. And if you want to catch rain off the roof, the slant roof model is the way to go.
Thank you for this information. Living in Manitoba, Canada, cold and wind are a big consideration.
We don't have snow like that here in NC. But we have some winds that are abnormally strong. It's taken out all of our cheaper houses. I like that Gothic arch gh's
What about growing in indoor tents for small seedlings setup. (Not for big garden growing)
I dont suggest the greenhouse i bought, even when guests exclaim how pretty it is. (I will try to edit and add the name of the greenhouse once i go look)
1. Hing doors that flap open in storms,
2. Proprietary hardware that you cant use a normal screw deiver with. (I've been replacing their hardware with my own)
3. Panels with a hollow core. Bugs, moisture, and some growth happens inside the wall panels. The bugs are the worst, so many earwigs are in the walls!! Ew.
4. Not enough roof supports, i added more bracing.
5. The automatic opening skylight does not work at all. I manually prop it open and use a recirculating fan.
15:20 "Across" has no "T" in it. Just a heads up.
All great points, I want to add one thing people can do. I also collect water via eaves trough into large water tanks. Then I run a 2" line off the water tanks and flood my pathways in my gr hs to water. This has been a huge success so much so I had to share. I use a landscape fabric in pathways as well to allow a slow weep to occur. After all said and done I water my entire gr hs in minutes. This reduces water usage from spray loss.
