Where are the restrooms in Hyrule? If you are visiting Hyrule, should you actually break those abandoned pots you found?
In this follow-up to Is Hyrule’s Water SAFE to Drink?, my wife (Dr. MamaGoron) and I travel to castles, villages, stables, and inns to answer one simple but complicated question— Where do I use the bathroom!?
Because in Zelda there are:
No toilets.
No outhouses.
No plumbing.
Not even a suspicious shed…
So where exactly are Hylians, Gorons, Zora, Rito and the stable workers doing their business?
🔬 Using real-world science, Folklore, History, and a concerning amount of research, my wife (a doctor in animal behavior, Ornithology and Biology) and I investigated:
How medieval societies actually handled waste
What Hyrule’s infrastructure tells us about sanitation
Whether magic, monsters, or ancient tech could explain the mystery
And why the answer is way weirder (and grosser) than you’d expect…

Where do you think is the best place to, um, "Do your business" in Hyrule? And how do you think the citizens are managing their waste? Thanks so much for watching! And big thanks to Mama Goron for the "crappy" research!!!
I would like to know about Hyrule’s air quality! A very small detail that I know in that regard is from ALttP, where a villager gets sick from breathing in the miasma coming down from the mountain thanks to Ganon. This can be paralleled with TotK, where people are getting sick from contact with gloom, but could also be getting weakened by breathing near it, since its Japanese name translates to miasma. Both are a result of Ganon's influence, though I'll note that it's only Ganon, not Ganondorf, that has produced this outcome. Something to do with being a demon lord?
Yes, YouTube recommended. I will watch a video over 40 minutes long about where Hyrule citizens go to poop
It’s not “breath of the wild” it’s “hold your breath out there because the stank is wild”
absolute nonsense about medieval sanitary. The pots were not emptied in streets or rivers. Your business was actually worth something and was sold to farmers as fertiliser for the fields. Please research properly instead of misinforming people. Your labcoat is misleading.
0:39 tf you mean upstream are you trying to poison the people living at that stable?
The “chamber pots” you highlighted are sinks or basins for washing. The one under lookout landing is a sink/basin used for dishes.
The one in Gerudo town is for rinsing the body of yourself or animal since they don’t have shower heads
22:31 missed opportunity to say “The Philosopher’s Throne” lol
I hereby certify that Mama Goron and Papa Goron both deserve a doctorate in poopology!
Thank you Missis Doctor Mama Goron 🙂
I completely agree with your claim that all the animals in Hyrule poop. That's just a given since all animals poop. But I'm not convinced that Gorons are animals. I've been making a taxonomical chart of all life in fiction, and in order to be considered an animal you need to be made of biomatter. And Gorons are not. They are rocks, they don't consume biomater they consume rocks. I have their closest relatives in the modern games being talluces another mineral-based organism
My favorite genre of Zelda video
" Imagine having to trek all the way up Death Mountain e dry time you need to relieve yourself. " 😱
Skyward Sword. "Sky loft makes you join the military…just to go to the bathroom."
Theory: Rupees are the poopies of Blupees!
This is insane. This has been my very embarrassing obsession for 2 years now, and here is a video on it. Thanks 🤣.
Ive done so much research on this, chamber pots came across my mind but I didnt see any pots as chamberpots.. thanks for reassuring me.
It also crossed my mind if hylians actually canonically need to pee, and I done a ton of research on it, obsessively. Ive found proof they poop, but no pee. But thats easy to deduce to just see it as "peeing isnt as family friendly as pooping" so they likely do anyway, just not mentioned
This is the kind of stuff I come to youtube for.
I''ll never look at Hyrule's villages the same ever again
Love the videos, hate the pronunciation.
but it does make you stand out soooo…. 😂💀
Did yall check the yiga hideouts?
I was trying to find your channel but forgot your name (SO SORRY BTW) so I typed "hyrule poop" it was the 3rd result ayyyyy😎 im subbing now
i havent watched the video yet but i recall hyrule castle having a toilet in it so i guess hyrule castle just had a huge ass line at it at all times which explains where there's a giant path right outside of it
I don't remember exactly how deep you went into the discussion about rupees… but too much makes sense in a horrifying way now.
When placed between two polarized lenses urea crystals will apear various colors depending on thickness and the thiner ones happen to be green or blue while the thicker ones actually correspond appropriately to the colors of the more valuable rupees.
Those nectar blossom things that trap things in themselves… some of them have evolved to effectively barter for waste instead of trapping prey. The great fairy really wants your crystals because her home is built out of the minerals stored in them.
If you get the crystals from chamber pots what type of crystal would form there, did you know urea crystals can form in some plants. These crystals are also what the queens military used to make its explosives with back in the day.
Consequently lots of plants can grow bigger than might be normal if given lots of nitrates. This would include Venus fly traps which even get their energy from nitrates and are egar for things that have lots of them, the aforementioned nectar things I always forget the name of, even some plants that spin.
Tragically exploding plants use tension rather than chemical energy but that tension is based on cell growth which does involve the aforementioned nitrates but I would asume it's such a highly refined process that mega dosing would mess things up or have no effect.
Rupees are actually pee it was under our noses the whole time.
I hate to tell you about the toilet hand from skyward. Sword is actually a ghost woman if you give her the paper she reads the letter and falls in love with the character who wrote it you can then see them haunting them in their sleep. 37:18
Topic request: why are there no snakes in Hyrule?
Yo papa goron, you give off game theory vibes, the spark that they lost a long time ago. I was so happy to sub to ya!
There is also an instance of poop in the trading chain in Oracle of Ages. Guy stuck in outhouse gives you a bag of poo to trade after giving him some paper from a book.
Do bases not crush when above water
Haha I love YouTube
Fun fact, if you bury waste for a long time and water it you get Niter aka a main ingredient for nitric acid.
Check out Dr. Stone for more science fun
This is the best Video ever
be with the horses! plays donkey noise lol
omg where is the location at 19:02 in japan?? its so gorgeous!
nice videos, id recommend turning down the sound effects as they are very sharp and loud
If this counts as promo, you have full permission to extirpate me 👍
I noticed a lot of comments about the cartoony ai drawings in your recent videos, and if you are looking for someone to quickly sketch up anything related to your videos or something of the like I would be SO happy to help. Not asking for pay or anything. Just something to think about and keep me busy!! I have a diploma in multimedia and art production but I will not and cannot say I’m a professional lol. I live in a small city in Canada, I’ve been at home on maternity leave and have been looking to start trying to pick up some hobbies again, and I’m only commenting here on a complete whim as your videos have been keeping my brain occupied and at least partially sane 😍.
Regardless I absolutely love all of the work you guys have been doing and thank you for the background entertainment 🙂
It's baffling to me why they removed having toilets around. I thought it was hilarious to have a toilet quest in OoT, MM and SS. Bring back the toilet hand and proper toilets for the people of Hyrule!
I beg you, never try to pronounce "Saria" again. For the love of Farore.
I’m so thankful for your content! Momma and Papa Goron, y’all really put your everything into these videos. Y’all get me laughing good. Every single topic is an absolute journey and I learn so much! Thank you!
If I had a nickel for every video I've watched which mentions the bird people defecating into their own drinking water, I'd have two nickels.
It's not a lot, but it's odd that it has happened twice.
I’m still not entirely comfortable the gorons do poop – they eat rocks, after all, which implies they are made of rocks, potentially animated by magic. I like to think they eat rocks to grow their bodies, and little bits of rock just fall off them as waste lmao.
regardless, it definitely means they poop rocks, no matter how organic or magical you consider them 🤣
So rupees are fossilized poops. Got it.
omg new camera or new lighting setup? either way looks great!
I'm so happy I found this channel. Lol I like getting immersed in the world of games I play and movies I watch and I tend to just fill in the blanks for missing stuff. I wish to one day have a wife who will help me research stuff like this.
