   I put a tray in the bottom of my laundry tub. I put about 1/3 of a teaspoon of 20-20-20 water soluble fertilizer into a gallon jug of water and shake it up. Pour the water into the tray, and take the plants out of another tray and set them in it. After 20 minutes or so, I pull them out and put them back in the original tray. They typically drip in there enough to wet the bottom, but the level isn't above the ridges in the bottom of the tray. That way you know they got enough water, but that they're never sitting in water. I go get another one, and set those plants in the fertilizer water for 20 min…wash, rinse, repeat until all my plants are done (adding fertilizer water to the tray in the laundry tub as required of course). Use a well draining seed starting mix if you're doing it this way. I use Promix HP. I give them fertilizer with every watering…just a little, but they get it every time, so nothing gets burned, but everything gets at least a little boost very evenly over time. This way you're never wasting fertilizer either. Whatever is left when I'm done gets poured back in the jug for next time.

   Dude! I almost skipped this video for beginner gardeners bc I'm not a beginner. But, thought I'd watch anyway 'cause I love ya and I'm in your region. Well hot dang! You taught me something I'd never considered……after years and years I finally upgraded indoor my seed starting station to the very same shelf you are showing. The heat transfer from the mats never occurred to me. TY!!! Sincerely, Southernfriedtimes.

   Question sorta…when I was a beginner gardener I had no clue that many of the seeds I was starting needed cold stratification. Hope you will touch on that topic for your beginners. That information would have saved me lots of time, money and frustration. ❤

   My fist seed starting station was a table and grow lights hung from the ceiling. Only things that have changed is the table got bigger and Ive added more grow lights. Still dont use heat mats or timers, I dont bottom water, I use potting soil instead of seed starting mix. I dont do a lot of things "experts" say need to be done yet I still run at least 85% germination/success rate.

    Been growing basicly the same way for years with great results.
