If you are 8 weeks away from your last average spring frosty date – its time to sow seeds indoors for luffa, moringa, and other edible gourds like snake bean and bitter melon. These guys need a good six months of warm temperatures to grow. Therefore, it is essential to get an early start on these crops by sowing seeds indoors. Transplant when all danger of frost has passed. These tropical plants are cold sensitive and thrive when grown during the warmest part of the year.

Quick tip: luffa and moringa seeds can be difficult to germinate due to their hard shells. Soak them in water for 24 hours before planting. Then sow seeds in warm soil (by using heat mats) and high humidity. This will drastically speed up germination.
