Are you interested in acquiring garden/plant knowledge and/or gardening skills? In 2026, this new year brings many opportunities for you to do just that in our local area.

First, and available right here in Red Bluff, are the monthly meetings of the Red Bluff Garden Club. Each meeting features a guest speaker presenting on varied plant/garden topics. Past topics ranged from tips for photographing your plants and flowers to preserving your garden produce. The program for our next meeting, January 27th, is entitled “Pruning Roses for a Spectacular Spring Bloom Cycle”.

Dr. Lesa Lane, Master Rosarian, will be sharing helpful, practical tips for your roses. You may remember reading her informative article last Thursday. Also scheduled for this year are presentations on creating succulent fairy gardens, growing organic produce, DIY garden art, and more.

I just received the Spring/Summer catalog for Shasta College Community Education Classes. In the Personal Growth section, they offer five one-day classes on gardening and landscape design. Included among the five options are propagation techniques, container gardening, an introduction to landscape, gardening basics, and an introduction to soils.

You can find the details and register online at: https://shastacollege.coursestorm.com. You may ask questions by contacting [530] 395-8560.

I guess I am late to the party … I knew Turtle Bay in Redding had an amazing arboretum, but I did not know they had a garden nursery shop that sells plants to the public and is open every Wednesday through Saturday. The nursery is also offering classes and workshops for adults and children. On January 17, they are offering a workshop on indoor seed propagation. A workshop on plant propagation through cloning is scheduled for January 24.

On February 7, the nursery is offering a children’s program, Charlie Rabbit & Friends – Winter Wonderland in the Garden. When you visit their website, you can find all the details and register for the workshops. Also on their website, you can view the inventory and pricing of the plants they offer for purchase. You can sign up to receive their emails to stay up to date on the Nursery events, classes, workshops, and more. They also recycle pots. Give a new plant the gift of life by donating your black gardening pots. The nursery website is: www.turtlebaynursery.org.

In this new year, I wish you Growth. Growth in your knowledge of plants and gardening. Growth in your gardening skills. And finally, Growth in healthy plants in abundance in your yards and gardens.
