Jerry is introducing a major new project here at Creekside Nursery. We are expanding the barn to create more retail space for 2025, and today he walks you through the vision, layout, and why this project matters for the future of Creekside.

We would love your feedback on one key part of the design, so be sure to comment below with your thoughts. Your input truly helps us shape the garden center experience for the upcoming season.

After touring the project area, Jerry takes you through the shrub lot to share that all shrubs are now 20 percent off until the garden center closes for the season on December 20. If you have been waiting to stock up on shrubs for structure, screening, winter interest, or spring planting, this is the perfect time to shop.

Thank you for supporting our family business and for joining us as we prepare for an exciting new chapter at Creekside.

  1. Greetings from Pennsylvania. Each yr we buy a live Evergreen with rootball. Then it's planted in our landscaping after Christmas. This yr we bought a Electra Blue Ceader to use for Christmas.

  2. Hey, great idea for add on! Barn door would be good there slide open and shut. We lived our spiral staircase I. Our cabin. Saves space and stuff. The outdoor area looks like it would be great for a picnic.

  3. Absolutely love the fall color on my Double Play Doozie’s. It’s almost December and they have been stunning for most of the year. I planted a low boxwood hedge in front of them for winter interest. Thank you so much for your plant information, and being able to order online what I cannot find locally.

  4. I wouldn’t put in a spiral staircase for customers as it will increase your liability. Someone who shouldn’t is going to climb up and trip. I am 75 and never want to miss seeing anything although I am not as stable as I used to be.

  5. I'm a big fan of your nursery and I live in Nova.Scotia Canada. No to the spiral staircase, yes to keep the loft. Can you not instead make a staircase to the loft and use it for storage of your many products you sell? Or even items you need for repotting plants? Seems like a shame to destroy a space that has such potential. I was going to suggest putting some windows on your build as it's so dark there but I don't live in NC s 0:28 o I don't know how that would affect the heat inside. Or perhaps install doors with windows rather than wooden doors. Great to see you are such a successful business. Your growth in the past five years is unbelievable, like Garden Answer. Both of you have products that we are unable to buy in Canada such as your large augers. And your statuary is just so cool. One thing i'm unsure of is whether you sell pedestals for statues. If not, it might be something to grow into. Big fan of yours.Wish you continued success. Perhaps if Trump gets thrown out I may visit in the future. On tours i've met many people from NC and obviously none of them are gardeners, because they've never heard of your nursery. 😢

  6. I love your idea of eliminating the loft. So many possibilities to display items. What ever you decide will be fabulous, as usual. 😊

  7. I’m going to be no help, but I’m going to chime in anyway. I think remove the loft. Make the ‘hay door’ on the shrub lot end swing open using a temperature controlled opener, do the same thing on the other end and add a functioning cupola. Maybe all that will help it be more comfortable in the summer. I realize you didn’t ask about any of that.
On the other hand, you said there are some cool things you could do with the loft. Since it isn’t structural and could be removed later you could keep it and design a safer stair situation.
Told you I wasn’t going to be any help. Love your ideas, can’t wait to see what you do.

  8. spiral staircase is a liability when people fall down. also, you need to consider Americans With Disabilities (ADA); if you have something really cool up there, how do they use it? Open it up and enjoy the open space.

  9. Love a good project. Yes I would take out the loft and open it up. That would make it brighter and more inviting.

  10. I would add stairs to get to the loft and use it for gardening classes and for adding more of your retail cute products. Maybe even add a dumb waiter for getting heavy stuff up there.

  11. Have you all ever considered houseplants? Here in Boquete, Panama I never thought that I would see so many house plants in the nurseries because many grow wild here. Those evergreens would look amazing with houseplants tucked around them all summer then take them inside. Just a thought. 😊

  12. Open up the loft so your retail space feels more open. Make sure everything is easily accessible for your older customers. We’re the ones who love to garden – not just plant low maintenance shrubs in our landscape. It is currently so dark inside. Figure out how to add some light without loosing the rustic feel of the barn.

  13. Definitely keep the loft and add stairs! It’s a good amount of useful space for storage, indoor classes or staging small things like Creekside merch, Felco stuff or the new candles!

  14. I love how Jerry and Jenny always have something new happening at Creekside. Bith are so inspiring.

  15. Since the loft isn't structural or used for storage I'd open it up to the A frame. I also agree with another commenter who said to add a bathroom if it's going to be a complete retail space. Just one or two family stall bathroom with a sink and diaper changing station would be an excellent choice. If you want to eventually have a cafe type area for coffee, then a bathroom would be required. Just a thought, and well wishes for all of your expansion projects!

  16. DO NOT DO STAIRS. It becomes a liability issue. There's people that won't be able to do the stairs to enjoy what y'all have up there. There's gonna be something up there.Somebody's gonna want, but they can't get up the stairs. So an employee's gonna have to. Just stay away from stairs. If you do make an employee access only do a break room up there have meetings up there something.❤❤

  17. I hate you now but I have not watched any gardening shows in a very long time.I have had a health scare that I had to take care of that began with the letter c, but I am no cancer never didn't have cancer. They thought maybe it was turns out it's not.I'm good. my sister had a health scare, a brain aneurysm, all gone now she's good. And n I w my other sister is battling metastatic lung cancer. It's not going so good.I'm fortunately breaks my heart. But on a lighter note, I cannot believe how much i've missed in the shrub world. The little red berry box.So cute, the New Gen box, which had I paid attention I would have bought some. I want to make a border but I want it to be a very slow growing boxwood that I don't have to maintain. My ground is too frozen now here in indiana

  18. Open the loft! It all sounds great!
Also talk to Laura and get her thoughts as she has so much experience in working at a garden center!

  19. Fabulous. Big glass doors that you could open in the hot summer. Lovely views. If you gut the roof space some businesses use the atrium space for large TV screens. (Boxed in Pine. Fabulous). That way you can advertise stock on the screen for ordering rather than hold stock? Or have the screens for beautiful nature scenes.? Great place to stop and have a coffee and shop till you drop. xxxx

  20. I would only vault the addition. I would finish out the current loft and have it for seasonal/ Overflow/ Staging area and possibly a small office. Especially, if you are planning on having a year around retail. This would allow for Storage of seasonal decor.

  21. The Berry Poppins shrubs look great. I really wish the deer would leave winterberry hollies alone here, otherwise I'd have them all over the place.
