Children can get their hands dirty and learn about composting at a free gardening workshop at a North East garden centre.
February’s Little Seedlings Club event will take place at Dobbies’ Birtley store on Sunday, February 1.
The interactive session will introduce children to the world of composting, including the difference between green and brown waste, what can and can’t be composted, and the vital role compost plays in supporting plants, wildlife, and the environment.
Ayesha Nickson, events programme manager at Dobbies, said: “Our February Little Seedlings Club is a great way for budding gardeners to learn all about the interesting and practical ways waste can be reused, and be inspired about composting, gardening, and looking out for nature.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming kids along to our February workshop and can’t wait to see their mini compost bottle creations.”
The workshop will also cover helpful composting creatures, starting a compost heap at home, composting in small spaces, and different uses for compost in both indoor and outdoor planting.
During the session, children will create their own compost bottles to take home and use in their own gardens.
Dobbies’ Little Seedlings Club is a monthly event designed to spark children’s curiosity about gardening and the natural world through fun and engaging hands-on activities, games, and seasonal topics.
Each session offers young participants the opportunity to ask questions, get creative, and build a deeper understanding of nature.
