LAUREL, Miss. (WDAM) – The Jasper-Jones Master Gardeners held a special program Monday for nature lovers.
The “Attracting Backyard Wildlife” event was held at the Laurel-Jones County Library.
Folks got a chance to learn how to welcome birds, butterflies and other pollinators to their property by landscape changes.
The group learned how to make birdfeeders out of toast instead of pinecones – using items like peanut butter, popcorn and cereal.
The master gardeners will be presenting a program every month to learn gardening and other wildlife tips.
Those monthly meetings will be backed in partnerships with the Laurel-Jones County Library and the Bay Springs Municipal Library, JJMG President Shelia Morrison said.
“We would love to have everyone come out,” Morrison said. “That’s the big push for us, education and community service, and that’s why I’m loving having the fact that both libraries in Jones and Jasper counties are willing to work with us.”
Anyone interested in attending a program or for more information on the organization, contact the Jasper County Extension Office at (601) 428-5201.
