In this video we take on a self build shed from scratch β€” with no plans at all.

No drawings, no instructions, just timber, tools, and a bit of determination. We start from the ground up and show the real process of building a shed from scratch, including the challenges, decisions, and problem-solving along the way.

This is a real DIY shed build, not a kit, and not something planned months in advance. If you’re thinking about a home workshop, garden shed, or DIY build project, this video shows what it’s really like to just get stuck in and build.

  1. I had to do the same for my garage build, no plan but a good Idea of how it would be, it cost me Β£3,400 to do it but that was now 16 years ago. Always very rewarding to get it done by yourself.

  2. Hope you got planning permission !!!!πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

  3. Males are pre-programmed from birth to build sheds and plans are strictly for University Architects only

  4. Fantastic Job Martin and Gary. My god you tired me out just watching. I know how much work went into my second 8 x 8 ready made shed. To build it from scratch is remarkable.
    Take care, Jeff

  5. Hi Martin, you'd be best off triangulating those roofing timbers, if not it will push the walls out. Just a simple timber from rafter end to end and that will stop it happening.

  6. I am fussy about getting natural light. I'd like to have seen more windows go in personally. Maybe fit one in the roof at a later stage,Martin.

  7. This has depressed the life out of me seeing that summer sun. Need the better weather back asap

  8. As much grief as you jokingly give each other, you work well together and that's come out a really good job. Well done to you both.

  9. guys should have used tongue & groove, air tight warmer, stronger. much less warping..πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

  10. Martin, I love the banter with you and Gary. This extra space si a game changer. I'm looking forward to more spannering on this channel.

  11. It was good to see that all in one video. I love the relationship you have with all your kids, love the banter, it’s great. Nice to see the sun β˜€οΈ. Enjoyed the song 🎢, nice one.

  12. Awesome. A great build given the incredibly low cost. Looks like you had a good laugh and plenty of banter along the way, too. Love it! πŸ™‚πŸ˜Ž

  13. A carpenters TIP if you cut it to short just drive a screw in the end grain to bring it up to height then just fix it. Problem solved πŸ˜‰πŸ‘ŒπŸ½

  14. Good to see you, what about heat loss from the roof, is it worth insulating or not? just asking because i might build something similar, but smaller.

  15. Looks a grand job. Hate to think how much it would cost these days for something pre-made, especially if you then had someone put it together for you.

I'm also amazed that Stacey, who finds most things funny if there's some innuendo involved, didn't laugh when you were talking about strong gussets πŸ˜€

  16. Very nicely done lads, and loved the I taught you song, scank in the garden πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  17. Looks good. Only one worry. I don’t know how those walls will hold the weight of the roof.
