What’s the humidity like? Alocasias and Colocasias will often drop leaves if they are unhappy with the conditions and I think humidity is the main one, they will go back to the rhizome in hopes for better chances next time.
I have most of mine in Leca but one thing I always do is put a layer of a couple of cm of sphagnum as mulch on top of the Leca and try to keep it moist and they seem to love it.
