MLK Celebration

Heart and Sol of Loveland will host the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration at 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, at Mountain View High School, 3500 Mountain Lion Drive.

This year’s theme is “We Cannot Walk Alone.”

Thompson School District students have been invited to express this theme through art, writing and music. The event will celebrate their creativity while honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Other highlights Include a dance performance by FOCO Flava and a presentation of Dr. King’s iconic “I Have a Dream” speech by Dr. George Stevens

History Talk

The Loveland Historical Society will hear a program on “George and Martha Washington” at 6:30 p.m.Thursday, Jan. 15, at the Loveland Museum, 503 N. Lincoln Ave.

The Loveland Historical Society’s 2026 Kick-Off to the country’s 250-year celebration begins with a program on George and Martha Washington, presented by Doug McCormick, Loveland Historical Society’s vice president.

How did Martha become the richest woman in Virginia and then marry George? What role did this family have in the founding of Arlington Cemetery? Come learn about the first president of the United States of America and his family.

Art in Nature

Loveland Open Lands and Trails will offer a program on Art in Nature Sketching and Journaling – Pika at 3-5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, and again at 9 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at High Plains Environmental Center, 2698 Bluestem Willow Drive.

You do not have to come with any materials as some will be available to use. All levels of experience are welcome.

In addition to a guided sketching session, there will be information shared that can become notes for your nature journal.

There also will be some free time to sketch or explore the grounds of High Plains Environmental Center.

Both the Thursday afternoon and Friday morning sessions cover the same material.

Game Night

A Game Night on the Town will be hosted by Artworks Center for Contemporary Art and Love Shack at 5:30-10 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at the Artworks Center, 310 N. Railroad Ave.

Join for an experimental social game night featuring art and original games still in development.

The hosted social game night will feature original games from Daniel Schreiner. Some formats may never be played again. Play, watch, experience something new.

Schreiner, creator of Truth or Fate, has crafted and hosted experiences for Apple, Meta and Spectra Art Space. This night draws from that same philosophy: clear flow, welcoming energy, and experiences that make moments feel alive.

Symphony and Dance

Symphony on the Dance Floor will be held at 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, Jan. 13-14, at Sweet Heart Winery & Event Center, 5500 W. U.S. 34.

Spectacular Scenery

An Open Lands and Trails lecture on Origins of Colorado’s Spectacular Scenery will be offered at 10-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan 14, at the Loveland City Council Chambers, 500 E. Third St.

Colorado is renowned for its spectacular mountain scenery. The whole state is elevated above the surrounding area and more than 50 mountain peaks reach over 14,000 feet above sea level. The Rocky Mountains constitute the only mountain range in the world that is located so far from forces normally credited with forming mountains.

In this talk, Certified Interpretive Guide Eldon Grimm will explore the forces that created these mountains, in this unique location, and those that carved them into what we see today. The presentation includes a video, diagrams and original photographs.

Choral Society Auditions

The Loveland Choral Society will hold spring show auditions at 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, by appointment only.

The spring production will be “American Songbook.”

Auditions require a 10-minute timeslot and can be scheduled by visiting the LCS website at lovelandchoralsociety.org.

Bird Survey

The NoCo Bird Alliance will hold its first bird survey of 2026 at Bobcat Ridge Natural Area, 10184 County Road 32C, starting at 8 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 11.

Participants will get the chance to connect with the local birding community and contribute to important citizen science. By observing and recording bird populations at Bobcat Ridge, they can help local scientists gain a better understanding of bird dynamics in the region.

All levels of birders are welcome.

The hike will cover a little over four miles of terrain. The route is primarily flat to moderate, though participants should be prepared for a few steep sections.

Meet in the Bobcat Ridge parking lot.

No formal registration is required and there is no participation limit.

The trip could be canceled, rescheduled, or relocated if trails are closed due to weather or muddy conditions.

FORT COLLINS
‘Disrupted Gardens’

An exhibit titled “Disrupted Gardens” by Kristy Deetz opens Friday at the Lincoln Center Art Gallery, 417 W. Magnolia.

The exhibit features a selection of acrylic paintings that depict evolving ecospheres in a not-too-distant future where nature responds to environmental toxins and climate change by regenerating the Earth, our “Garden,” and inhabiting it with new creatures. The paintings feature “Specimens” (handmade sculptures) interacting with each other and the landscape through a hyper-realistic style that is mesmerizingly vital.

The paintings and sculptures have different aesthetic approaches with materials but exist as objects of creative activism that urge us to restore and nourish Earth and all its creatures.

The exhibit will be on display through Feb. 25. The gallery is open at 1-6 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays and when there are shows playing..

Prayers for World Peace

Heruka Kadampa Meditation Center Fort Collins will hold free Prayers for World Peace events with Sarah Crutchfield at 2-3 p.m. Sundays, Jan. 11 through June 21.

The center is located at 149 W. Harvard St., Suite 102.

Help increase peace in this world through your prayers and good heart. Prayers for World Peace is a free meditation class with chanted prayers for world peace. Each class includes a guided meditation, a brief teaching on how to develop a warm and loving heart, and beautiful prayers.

Bird Q&A

​Audubon Rockies will hold an online Naturalist Chat, A Bird Q&A, at 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15.

Whether you’re curious about feeding birds, their behaviors, population changes, or need help with an ID, the program will offer answers.

Community science coordinator and bird expert, Zach Hutchinson, will answer questions live on Zoom.

Seed Swap

Heart and Soil Gardening will hold a Seed Swap and Community Gathering at 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 11, at Avogadro’s Number, 605 S. Mason St.

The winter months can be hard on a gardener so this is a chance to get excited for spring 2026 and make some new friends.

Participants should bring seeds in paper envelopes, clearly marked as to what they are. No live plants or anything with dirt can be indoors at Avo’s.

If you don’t have anything to swap, or want to do a little more, there will be information about how to donate to the Food Bank for Larimer County at the event.
