Foo Fighters guitarist Pat Smear is set to miss a series of upcoming shows after breaking his foot while gardening.
Foo Fighters shared the news on Instagram alongside an image of an injured Smear with his middle finger in the air and wearing a smile, which was stylised like a tabloid newspaper front cover.
The rock icons explained, “In the classic tradition of rockstars having bizarre gardening accidents, Pat Smear has apparently rung in the new year by smashing the shit out of his left foot.”
The statement continued, “This means he’ll unfortunately be missing a few shows while the multiple broken bones in his foot heal. We’ll miss our beloved Pat as much as you will, but we want him fully healed and back on his feet as soon as possible.”
Thankfully, they have lined up an adequate replacement, revealing, “Beck and St. Vincent guitar wizard Jason Falkner will be filling in for Pat while he’s on the mend.”
Presumably, the dates that Smear will be missing is their scheduled concerts this month, which will see them perform in Mexico on January 10th, a benefit show the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on January 14th, and their huge gig at the University of Tasmania Stadium in Australia on January 24th.
Their next concert is not scheduled to take place until May, when they will headline Welcome to Rocksville in Daytona, Florida.
Their run of European dates is set to kick off at the Unity Arena in Oslo, Norway on June 10th, before the rock legends will travel to Stockholm, Warsaw, Munich and Paris.
Then, at the end of June, Foo Fighters will arrive in the United Kingdom for two shows at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool on June 25th and June 27th.
They will also play headline dates in Vienna and Berlin, as well as appearances at a limited number of European festivals, such as Italy’s I-Days, Spain’s Mad Cool Festival, and Portugal’s Nos Alive. Presumably, Smear will have recovered in time for their summer jaunt on the continent.
