TULSA, Okla. –
Pop superstar Billie Eilish is planting seeds of change in Tulsa through a donation tied to her recent North American tour.
Global Gardens, a Tulsa-based nonprofit that teaches science, nutrition and healthy cooking through hands-on gardening, received the donation through Billie Eilish’s Changemaker Program. The funds were distributed via REVERB, a nonprofit that manages the program’s Climate Impact Fund.
The donation is funded by ticket sales from Eilish’s “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT: THE TOUR.” Global Gardens said it is not permitted to disclose the exact dollar amount, a condition of the gift, but said the support will expand its work with students and families across Tulsa.
How the Changemaker Program works
Through the Changemaker Program, Eilish and her fans raise money during tour stops to support organizations focused on food equity, climate justice, reducing carbon pollution and other environmental efforts. REVERB oversees the distribution of the funds to selected nonprofits across North America.
REVERB is dedicated to connecting artists, fans and organizations to drive environmental and social change, directing music’s cultural influence toward projects that support communities and cut emissions.
Impact in Tulsa classrooms and gardens
Global Gardens uses garden-centered science and peace education to help students become self-directed learners and community leaders. Each year, more than 4,000 students and families take part in the organization’s gardening and cooking programs.
The nonprofit said the donation will help empower more young “agents of change” by strengthening connections between students, healthy food and their communities.
