After 44 years, Hong Kong’s Royal Garden hotel brand is expanding for the first time with the opening of The Royal Garden Kowloon East in Tseung Kwan O in January 2026.
The 366-room property is a reimagining of the former Crowne Plaza Kowloon East, transformed by Sun Hung Kai Properties into what it describes as an “oasis of calm” for modern travellers.
Positioned as an urban resort rather than a traditional city hotel, the new Royal Garden blends nature-led design with family-friendly and pet-friendly stays. Interiors are warm and relaxed, with open layouts and natural tones that soften the pace of city life without feeling removed from it.
Accommodation is designed to be flexible. Options range from interconnected family rooms and bunk-bed studios to larger multi-room suites for groups.
A key highlight is the collection of seven private villas, each with its own garden. Styled with a Balinese influence and finished in warm woods and muted colours, they welcome families, couples and guests travelling with pets.
Families are clearly front of mind. Two themed rooms add a sense of fun to longer stays, including the Junk Bay Kids’ Den with its ocean-inspired play space, and the Family Fortress Room built around interactive castle exploration.
A dedicated kids’ club and shared activity spaces encourage parents and children to spend time together, rather than apart.
Social and dining spaces are designed to feel easy and informal. Garden Lounge leans into a tropical, forest-like mood with olive and golden tones, an outdoor barbecue garden and a children’s play area.
In the lobby, Fine Foods Lounge serves familiar Royal Garden favourites, including artisanal cakes, butterfly cookies and well-made coffee, making it a natural stop for both guests and locals.
The hotel’s dining offer will expand further in July 2026 with the opening of Ponentino. Inspired by the group’s Italian dining heritage, the rooftop restaurant will serve casual, all-day Italian dishes on the hotel’s top floor. An outdoor terrace overlooks Tseung Kwan O, with sunset views expected to be a major draw.
Wellness facilities include a 25-metre outdoor pool, a modern fitness centre and a series of communal spaces designed for downtime. For events, the Diamond Room 8 accommodates up to 180 guests in a light-filled setting, with French windows opening onto an adjacent garden. Weddings are supported by a dedicated bridal suite with private changing and preparation areas.
Designed by LAAB Architects, the hotel takes an eco-conscious approach that reflects the natural landscape of Tseung Kwan O. Olive and apricot tones, warm timber finishes and airy layouts are aimed at the expectations of younger travellers, while still retaining the understated character associated with The Royal Garden name.
The Royal Garden Kowloon East will open in phases throughout 2026, with guest rooms launching in January, villas and family facilities following in March, and Ponentino completing the rollout in July.
To mark the launch of its new website, the hotel is offering a limited-time Transformed Offer Rate, with 25% off stays and complimentary daily breakfast for up to two guests per room, available for bookings made until March 31, 2026.
