Presenter Jeremie Fant, PhD is Director of Conservation at the Chicago Botanic Garden’s Negaunee Institute. Originally from Australia, Jeremie received a horticulture degree from the University of Adelaide and a Doctorate in Genetics at the UK’s University of Cambridge. His work focuses on conserving native species and helping to restore prairies of the Midwest. So it is no surprise that many of his favorite plants are some of our native prairie species.
Jeremie lives in downtown Chicago where gardening space is scarce. With a 5×10 balcony to play with he has grown native plants in pots for over 17 years. He estimates that he’s tried about 200 species; he has taken careful notes on what works and doesn’t and is happy to share with us what he has learned.
