The Purple Star was bestowed on staff for improving services for people with learning disabilities.
This followed a successful scheme designed to improve their care and treatment.
At the time, Dagmar Louw, the nurse team manager of the ambulatory care service, said: “Due to the complexity of the hospital environment, people with learning disabilities will often avoid healthcare settings and are therefore at greater risk of complications.
“These patients often need just a bit more time, clear communication and a calm environment.
“When a unit has obtained a Purple Star it means that people with learning disabilities can be assured of exactly that.”
She explained that the Purple Star indicates a commitment to ensuring patients with learning disabilities receive proper support.
The ambulatory team focused on patients who visit the hospital on a day-case basis, providing essential services such as blood transfusions or IV antibiotics.
