I started work on this vivarium in mid 2020, it began life as a aluminum framed display case three times older than me that I had inherited from a brother who moved. I had no knickknacks to keep inside, so I siliconed it, sealed the wood with liquid rubber, and foamed in some pots and tunnels with the eventual goal to keep lime frogs (Sphaenorhynchus lacteus). The bottom was built to be a paludarium, complete with a drilled hole for an overflow and outlets for a waterfall return.

Then life happened, and it sat in a dusty closet for 5 odd years after I learned that lime frogs are all wild-caught and eat ants 💀

In mid December, I took it back out and sealed the foam with aquarium-safe concrete and wicking fabric (cotton towel), got some plants inside, and began to tune it for dart frogs.

Still got a long way to go, of course. Most plants are very fresh, and there are still 4 pot spots in the background that need filling… But I'm very proud of this tank overall. The Masdevallia erinacea wall is something I'm particularly excited about!
