While a cold front is coming, we just had a stretch of unusually warm, dry weather—so I took full advantage and tackled some boring-but-gratifying outdoor projects that help you start the New Year organized and ready for spring. 🌿✨

In today’s Day After Christmas Garden Chores, I’m sharing what I got done around the garden and garage: clearing out and donating what we’ll never use, responsibly discarding old chemicals, watering winter containers (yes—watering!), potting up leftover bulbs, tidying the potting area, trimming topiaries, and taking notes on sprinkler zones that need fixing before spring arrives.
In this video:
✅ Garage cleanout + donation pile (Habitat for Humanity)
✅ Safe sorting + disposal of old garden chemicals/spray paints
✅ Watering winter containers (pansies + violas) during a dry spell
✅ Transplanting starts + an easy dill seed experiment
✅ Potting up leftover bulbs + covering containers to prevent rot/rodents
✅ Cleaning the potting area + stocking potting mix + gravel for spring
✅ Topiary trim + gentle winter care
✅ Sprinkler zone check + what I’m repairing before spring
✅ “Beautify the alley” mission + a future fairy garden spot

Linda, you mentioned camping. Do you have a camper or do you tent camp?
Here in Pennsylvania we have a layer of ice on the ground. Just getting to my mailbox was an adventure…no working outside for me.
Nothing that you do is ever boring! 😃 I agree with you, in that it’s interesting to see how others maintain their garden and sheds all year long. Hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas! 😃
Funny, but I told my son, as soon as Christmas is over I need to clean the garage.😂 I think we all are ready to clean out and prepare for spring.
Does your garage have heating? If not, do you have any problems with garden chemicals or spray paint, etc. getting too cold or freezing? I have an unheated shed and I haven't been able to keep those types of items in the shed and I think my winters are warmer than yours. Just curious. Thanks.
Just had sunlight here in Iowa after two days of blowing and snowfall!
Two more months to go before seeds, plants, and plans. 🌹🌷🌸🫖🍪
I think we all have the same urges. As soon as Christmas was done we did a reset. Cleaned the garage. Took away a truck load to the dump and boxes to the thrift store. I even cleaned the filters on the dishwasher and washing machine! It’s cold here in Ontario and I won’t see anything growing until late March. My forgotten places and things have been attended too. Feels so good.
Thanks for the video! I, too, took advantage of a warmish sunny Saturday after Christmas and cleaned up/watered plants that I'm overwintering in the garage as well as purged clutter and reorganized. Felt so good to do something productive. Happy New Year!
Always fun puttering around the cottage after Christmas to see what Linda is up to! I certainly took advantage of those warm days, and got so much done. I still love the potting area there on I think is the west side. So neat! All the topiaries so pretty in the back. Enjoyed so much of my holiday break these last two months, but first Monday next month it's back to work on the task that was near done already. Hope to make it for Sunday live, and to find out your new word of the year! Been pondering mine. Looking forward to a fun and exciting New Year for all of us 🌱❤️
In Tulsa, and did the exact same thing. Built out and got my new shed put together to hold all my garden stuff, which freed up my absolutely disaster of a garage to actually get it usable. Still not done, but it’s well on the way. That warm weather was unreal! 70’s to 30’s in 24 hours though yesterday! 😂
It’s alway so nice to get organized.
Dill is best sown in the fall/winter as you have done. However, it generally waits to germinate until the spring starts
in earnest. March for you?
I'm jealous of your warm weather in Oklahoma City. It's been very cold here for a week now, and it looks like it's going to remain that way for a while longer. Best wishes from the south of Germany and a good start to 2026.
I noticed you are using moss on your topiary instead of stones for a topper. Is it living moss or sheet moss from the craft store? I am interested in your thoughts on this.
LV,great thinking , keeping sharp, long term thinking…get a chance go camping would be change …always looking Fine! Have a Unbelievable 2026 !!! Happy New Year!
Loved this video, a nice palette cleanser from all things Christmas. Thank you 🌿❤
After Christmas Day is over & company goes home, I cannot wait to take all the decor down & thoroughly clean. I had family to spend a few nights with us so after they left, bed sheets were changed out & washed, rugs were taken out to shake out & fresh air, swept & mopped, bathrooms cleaned back up. Got a corner of the garage cleaned up & organized where the Christmas
tree goes. Whew, but what a great feeling. (It was in the high 70’s in GA)
Seaons Greeting from Rosie O from the South of England. 🇬🇧 😊. Stay safe and warm. Peace and hope to everyone.🎉❤
I never knew you were a camper. A camping video would be garden-esque, I think!
I keep a stock of short stake-type fence panels from the dollar store for high traffic areas like your alley. Great for defining borders and keeping people and their pets out. They’re inexpensive, come in a variety of materials/styles and take up virtually no room in storage. May the odds always be in your seedlings’ favour. 😊🌱 🇨🇦 5a
Just a thought to make your garage look nicer and help organize. We had our floor epoxied where they put an acrylic floor on top of the floor. It fills your cracks as well and looks very nice and keeps it from future cracking. It looks so good. You ca
N choose a color to go with your home. The lighter the bigger the area looks. Then you could clean it easier also.
. I’ll see if I can give you a link.
I totally agree – watching other people clean, purge and get organized inspires me! Thank you for the kick start.
So inspiring for me to start getting ready for the spring when the weather allows! 😊
Thanks for the incentive to get my garage cleared of junk and better organized. Not sure how far I'll get but this has really motivated me. We'll see …… 🏠🏠
Hi Linda, who was your little buddy standing at the garage door.
