Do you know why Vietnamese people bend the base of bamboo?Right from when bamboo is still a young shoot, people wrap its stem with plastic tubes or old tires, then bend and tie it tightly to shape it as desired. As the shoot grows, the bamboo develops in a spiral or graceful curve depending on the way it’s bent. Once the plant is strong enough, the tools are removed, and its shape is further adjusted with wire or wooden braces to keep it stable.
When harvested, the bamboo base is dug up, cleaned, and trimmed of its roots and stems to highlight its bonsai-like form. After that, the bamboo is replanted in a pot and carefully nurtured so that its branches and leaves grow in harmony with the grower’s vision. This is a unique method that not only showcases creativity but also opens up a new way to generate income from bamboo.

    I love bamboo, it's so refreshing to look at IMO. I was looking into planting them in my yard but everyone basically said not to because it grows out of hand and takes over everything😢

    Sadly… Aren't most bamboo species deterministic, and die after a set period of time?

    Most people will never live long enough to see it, but apparently it's not something that can become a family heirloom.

    My dad is almost 80 years old, 40 years ago he read in a book that someone in Europe did something like this. He’s been shaping trees on his property since then. Tying branches in certain positions, removing unnecessary limbs, and creating molds for the branches to grow into. I have a feeling bamboo‘s a little easier with how fast it grows.

    Eu não gostaria de estar no lugar desse bambu. A natureza dele é crescer para cima não se curvando.
    Isso deve ser tão sofrido para o bambu.
    Uma pessoa que realmente ame o bambu não faria isso com ele.
