The ActiveSGV Rain Gardens Team invites you to volunteer with them. Transform a community member’s garden into a water-saving, habitat-rich ecosystem, and learn practical skills you can use at home.
What you’ll learn: The team will walk you through the sheet mulching process, an eco-friendly technique that removes lawns while improving soil health. You’ll see how it works and learn tips for handling different types of grass. You’ll also see how to shape the ground to create swales and capture precious rain, allowing the garden to thrive with minimal watering.
Activities include:Creating swales to collect rainwaterLaying cardboard to smother grassSpreading wood chip mulch to improve the soilRemoving invasive plants to let native plants flourishWhat to bring:Closed-toed shoes, a hat, long sleeves, a water bottle, and a snack or lunch.Your preferred dust mask (or use one provided)
Gloves, tools, snacks, and plenty of extra water will be available on site.
This is a great opportunity to connect with your neighbors, learn something new, and be part of a growing movement for greener, more resilient communities. Make a difference — one garden at a time!
