COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – “A clean tool, a sharp tool, is always your best friend in the garden,” said Stephen Brueggerhoff with Texas A&M AgriLife.
Regular maintenance will help your tools last longer too, he said.
“What you do if you do have a little bit of rust that builds up, which it will eventually, just take some steel wool and kind of rub that off of there. You can also take home vinegar, vinegar that you have laying around the house, and just use that to help clean off the rust as well,” said Brueggerhoff.
Then immediately after, he says to oil your blades with mineral oil.
The best practice is to clean your tools after each use, but he says to get into the habit of cleaning them off at least weekly.
