I am enamored with this orchid from Trader Joe’s!! I have two phalaenopsis orchids already and I’m excited to add this orchid to my collection! Anyone know what type of orchid this beauty is? Any tips and tricks for it’s care compared to a phalaenopsis?

If you are a beginner and purchased your orchid at a grocery store, more than likely it is of the genus Phalaenopsis. Most common orchids, especially Phalaenopsis, are hybrids and it is difficult or impossible to identify the name. This isn’t to say your orchid can’t be identified. In many cases, it might be possible to somewhat identify the parents of your orchid.

It’s a type of oncidium. Oncidiums like more light than Phalenopsis though it should be indirect. They also like humility, if you have a hygrometer, keep the area around the oncidium between 50-70%; l keep my oncidiums in a grow tent to maintain that humidity. Oncidium don’t like to be cold; keep the temperature 🌡️ between 60F nighttime to 80F daytime if growing indoors. During the spring, summer, early autumn, you will want to add some orchid fertilizer to your water when watching and you will water just before the roots dry; oncidium don’t like completely dry roots.
