This is our final garden project of 2025, and it feels like the perfect way to close out the year!
In today’s video, we’re making a few thoughtful changes to the garden, swapping our tri-colored willow for a Sparkling Sprite crabapple, planting a Low Glow Japanese red pine, and adding red twig dogwoods for winter interest. These are the kinds of decisions that shape the garden long-term, and we’re excited to show you how it all comes together.

Love the locations you chose for your new plants. Just a side note in case it might help anyone in the Hendersonville area. We have a severe vole problem and go through a lot of Perma Till. So far the best place we have found to buy it is Raymond's Garden Center. If anyone knows better, please let me know.

I was very disappointed with my willow too. The coloring was really pretty but it became gangly and then, this fall, I was looking at it and realized it was dying. It was planted in a dryer area and I think it must have needed more water than it was getting. I ended up digging it up and replacing it with a Japanese maple which was getting swallowed up in the back yard. And that slender upright configuration really works better in the space so I agree with your decision.
My question is why your fence is in the middle of your mulched bed down the side so that you have plants on the other side of the fence where your neighbors yard is?
You have done so much in 2025, and I am looking forward to seeing what you have planned for the new year! Are you both from North Carolina originally? I would also like to know the names of some nurseries that are your favorites that would be worth a drive from Greenville SC. Merry Christmas to you!
