SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — If you’re looking for a magical way to celebrate the holidays, Gardens of Golden Gate Park hosts an unforgettable event that will definitely bring light to the season.

“We’re all attracted to the light. It brings us together. It brings warmth. It’s a celebration of the season, and there’s over a million lights,” Golden Gate Park Director of Advancement Brendan Lange said. “It’s a total wonderland of color. It is a beautiful experience for everybody.”

“Lightscape” is a mile-long trail filled with a kaleidoscope of dazzling, colorful lights and moving music. As visitors wind through the 55-acre botanical gardens, they will encounter a wide variety of lighted sculptures and water features.

“There are more high-energy parts that are kind of more festive and party vibes, almost. And there’s more meditative and kind of peaceful, almost Zen-like moments, too,” Lange said.

Visitors can see a Canary Island Strawberry Tree wrapped in glowing neon lights or walk through a hundred-year-old-plus redwood grove alive with a light show set to music.

“It is a beautiful, intergenerational activity. You can bring grandparents, kids, strollers, have a date night. It’s a perfect night out for everybody,” Lange said.

“I was not expecting anything quite so fabulous,” spectator Deborah said. “It’s incredible.”

“We hope that ‘Lightscape’ becomes yet another seasonal, iconic experience for people to bring their families together, their loved ones,” Lange said.

“I’ll go and see it over and over again,” Deborah said.
