What are you most excited to grow? I have like 100 seed packets to sort through lol. Half of them will be fridge stratified and grown indoors so I have decent seedlings to sell by June and the other half will be winter sown and can grow up over summer and be sold next year as second year plants.
I'm still a beginner native plant seller – I grew like 500 plants last year with a single shelf and grow lights in my bedroom. đ

I am growing some Pediomelum esculentum from seed. Really excited to see if I can get a few plants from the amount of seeds that I have.
I think itâs awesome that you are growing and selling all these native plants! Itâs great to bring awareness to people who may not know as much about them and also create more accessible ways for people to grow them.
I was thinking about selling a small amount of native myself because I have a lot of different seeds. Do you have any advice for growing such a large amount of plants (for a single person) and advertising the plants you were selling? There are so many ways to go about growing plants and I am very curious how you went about it and what you learned from your first year of sales.
Iâve got spikenard, wild sarsaparilla, cardamine, sweet cicely, wild licorice, smooth solomonâs seal, cut leaf cone flower that I started for this year- very antsy to see them all grow
So organized!! Iâd looove to do some selling of natives. Always thought I didnât have enough room but youâre inspiring me as it seems like you have limited space too. đ good luck with your seedlings!!Â
Iâve given away winter sown seedlings for the past two years at a local perennial exchange. People were so interested in native plants! I gave away about 80 seedlings each year and I just finished this years winter sowing. I have about 30 species! I was most surprised that people took my baby New Jersey Tea seedlings. I didnât think people would want a shrub that young.
500 plants — whew, that’s awesome yogurt, Yogurt.
I’m always most excited about the last thing I planted, so blue-eyed grass seeds? If they work out, they’ll fill a prominent area where the last residents had a very nice-looking display of hostas and liriope. It was one of the few spots in the yard where you could see an attractive and intentional design. I left it a long time out of self doubt.
Happy new year, everybody!
Great tips! Love the idea of a Facebook page. Gonna give that a shot when I’m ready to sell.
That’s awesome! I just finished my winter sowing. All my jugs are outside getting stratified.
