Love how you adapt the spreadsheet to work with how you actually use them! If I was out of a variety I really liked, I wouldn't delete that line as a reminder to get more. I would add a column to mark favorites.

I bought your beautiful seed storage drawers. I am just a beginner at collecting seeds. What do you recommend for holding the seeds in place when you don't have a full drawer? I like your seed spreadsheet. I am working on mine as well. I plan to add the dates that represent the time frame from the first frost and the last frost dates. Excited to get busy with seed starting! Thank you for inspiring me and teaching me grrat ways to stay organized.
Another column one might add is the date the seeds were packaged because if they are very old you might want to get some more of those seeds and know you should be using the old ones up.

Laura, how many hours a day do you spend actually doing things that affect your garden directly (not buying seeds/supplies)? At least from April to October. I like the idea of making a drawer(s) for January seed planting, then February drawer(s) then March drawer, etc. for whatever months are affected. Then the seeds in there can be an alphabetical order. Leftover drawers can be bulk, or fruit and veg or herbs, etc..

I'm so glad I don't have a huge inventory of seeds that Laura has. I just organize my seeds according to when they need to be planted. Mine are in small containers with a date so when January arrives I open the January container and plant those seeds. I plant the same things every year so that makes it easy for me. We just grow tomatoes, onions, peppers to make salsa and herbs to flavor them. Then, we have spring plantings of the celery, potatoes, peas, cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli. Few flowers include marigolds to plant around tomatoes for nematode control. Basil gets planted around tomatoes as well as companion plants.
Very timely video, thank you! I just created a spreadsheet last week and ordered seeds a couple of days after. My 'Garden Brain' needs to get organized and prepared for the fabulous 2026 Garden Season coming up! As for my spreadsheet, I added a 'Seed Source' column, so I know where the seeds came from (successful or not), so I can either eliminate them next year if they were a fail, or keep on growing from reliable sources (seed companies or from my harvested seeds, and heritage seeds).

Laura, I also had a spreadsheet for my seed starting last year. I also had a column for starting times instead of color-codes. That way I could sort by when things need to be started and have an easy plan.
I just ordered 30 seed packets from Johnnys yesterday. I had no idea they’re in my own state lol! I ordered all of my veggie seeds from Andrew’s though. I’ve seen your results from your parent’s seeds and I want that result too! Fingers crossed I don’t mess up!
Just curious, since you love conifers and all things yellow in the winter, whether you have a Pinus virginiana 'Wate's Golden' anywhere on your property. I am interested in finding one of these to plant on my property on the Canadian side of Lake Erie.
