I recommend you put your tree outdoors where it gets lots of sun. Plants in small pots are susceptible to drying out if not watered regularly. The water needs vary drastically based on weather. The three top reasons why beginners lose their trees are overwatering, underwater, and keeping outdoor trees, indoors or trees not getting enough sunlight.
Plants do not thrive growing in pots so horticultural technique becomes super important to maintain a healthy plant.
Plant will always do better in bigger containers.
This can include putting the pot in a larger pot of soil to stabilize, moisture content, temperature, etc.
