Hi everyone, I’m new to bonsai and yes I read through most of the wiki.

I got this boxwood today and don’t see the vision here yet. I got it because the trunk was thick and the roots flared but I’m not sure what to do here.

Do I snip that left trunk to make it into a leaning bonsai? What do you see here?

Since I live in zone 8 I was planning to give it a light pruning and let it hangout until it gets warmer to repot and style.

Maybe post more angles and determine the front? Might not want to cut it so it ends up as a straight long piece, but instead consider chopping that trunk back somewhere to add both movement and taper. But hard to say from just this view, and it can be hard to build up the guts to throw away a thick trunk.

Not a fun answer so probably not what you want to hear, but I’d put it in the ground for a year at least to let it thicken, a larger pot if ground isn’t viable, but yea before doing anything I’d give it at least a year to continue growing and thickening.

Don’t panic or rush, there’s no need. Focus on keeping it alive and healthy,
