High winds today, so this (oak?) took out my kids’ treehouse. I thought she was healthy. The roots just snapped in half. Can anyone tell if the tree looks like it was just a goner or if this was a fluke? Thanks. 😔

The tree also was growing on the edge of a hill.

Just your standard nature being nature.

Healthy tree doesn’t just drop like that

As the previous guy said nature being nature. Any tree can fail when it comes to Mother Nature and her forces. Yes ones with issues are more likely to have problems first but that doesn’t mean a healthy tree won’t come down.

Is there any fungus around the base? That’s usually a sign of root rot!

Keep the kids (and everyone else) FAR away from the hole where the roots were.

Red Oak? I’ve been to several job sites where we pruned healthy crowned red oaks a few months prior and upon return they’re uprooted. Always on hills or bluffs.

Is it in a wet area, they really don’t tolerate wet feet.

Had to have been some sort of root rot. Those butress roots look pretty punky. Way too small a root plate for soil failure.
