New Delhi: In an effort to transform neighbourhood parks into vibrant, child-centric spaces, MCD on Sunday laid the foundation stone for an octopus-themed park in Karol Bagh in the presence of MP Bansuri Swaraj.Spread across 4.5 acres at Ajmal Khan Park, the project will feature a striking 25×25-metre octopus-shaped play sculpture, with multiple swings and interactive elements. The design seamlessly blends art with play, using sculptures of varied heights, forms and textures. Swings embedded along the octopus curves, slides, benches, seating areas, dustbins, art pieces made of glass reinforced plastic and other play accessories will be crafted to resemble an octopus and its sprawling arms.”Our focus is on creating modern, thematic and eco-friendly recreational parks,” an official said. The attractions include educational wall paintings, statues including a Dr Octopus figure, balancing bridges, and supporting infrastructure designed to appeal to both children and youth. The project will include landscaping, rainwater harvesting, signage systems, specialised flooring, lighting, and electrical works. The park is being developed at a cost of Rs 2.6 crore, with funds from the Centre’s AMRUT scheme. It is expected to be completed in 3 months. The initiative builds on the success of the Dinosaur Park, which attracted nearly 20,000 visitors in the last 6 months. The park is 1 of 7 finalised by MCD. Some others are a Garuda-themed park at M Block Park in Greater Kailash-II, an insect-themed park near PVR Saket, a marine-themed park at Swasthya Vihar Park near the Laxmi Nagar district centre, and a peacock-themed park in Mayur Vihar Phase-III. A Mowgli-themed park is planned near the DTC depot in Mayapuri.
