MADISON, (WKOW) — The Wisconsin Garden Railway Society showcased large-scale model trains at the Holiday Express event held at Olbrich Botanical Gardens’ Atrium from December 6 through December 31.
The display, which was open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., featured a Winter Wonderland theme adorned with white poinsettias, silver, blue and purple décor, fresh evergreens, and moving trains.
Terry Cease, a longtime member of the Wisconsin Garden Railway Society, shared insights about the group.
“We are a group of like-minded people, all of whom enjoy model railroading outside,” said Cease.
He noted that the society consists of “121 members and families in and around the state” with “a handful from across the border in Illinois.”
Cease detailed the preparation process, saying,
“My group will come in weekend of Thanksgiving, and we’ll put the track down and get the trains up and running.” He added, “If you come at 12:30 and stay an hour, you can see four different trains.”
Highlighting the historical significance and appeal of the display, Cease said,
“Trains have been a part of the American history for more than 200 years.” He described the large G-scale trains as “big,” “durable,” and “very detailed,” making them a reliable and visually engaging attraction for families during the holiday season.
