The 70-year-old, who presents Gardener’s World from his Longmeadow garden in Herefordshire, will appear on BBC Two in January for an adventurous series along one of Europe’s most significant rivers, the Rhine.
Last week, he took to Instagram to alert his 1.3 million followers to the new release, sharing a photo of a recording studio.
Monty captioned his post: “In the studio today continuing recording Commentary for my new series ‘Monty Don’s Rhineland Gardens’ which will begin on BBC2 at 8 pm on Friday January 16.”
According to the BBC, the new programme will see Monty travel along the Rhine, crossing four countries and taking in “the importance of history and culture in the gardens along its shores”.

The preview added: “He begins in Switzerland, where he travels to an alpine garden 1,900 metres above sea level that displays a remarkable collection of mountain plants. In Austria, he visits the balmy Lake Constance, before crossing to the German side to visit an entire island garden nestled in its own microclimate.”

The second episode of three will hit viewers’ screens on the same day, and will see the Gardener’s World star travel through Germany following the river through “major cities, dramatic landscapes, and romantic castles and valleys, before reaching the flatter, industrial heartland of the country”.
