i am new to propagation and don’t know what I’m doing. I took this woody cutting off an amazing smelling bush at my aunts house this summer (June or July). Unfortunately I don’t know what the bush is I just know it smells amazing when it flowers in the spring and I don’t think it’s lilac. Anyway, this cutting definitely has roots (I repotted it when I brought it inside for winter a couple months ago). Something is shooting up from near the base of the cutting. I’m trying to determine if this is new growth or just something else growing in the pot that I should pull out. If you have thoughts on which it is, please share. Thank you in advance.

If you didn’t plant it, then it’s a weed. A lot of commercial potting soil comes with seeds in it.
This pot is way too big, your plant will get root rot and die a slow death over the winter if you don’t repot in a smaller pot. Add a good amount of perlite to the new soil mixture, will help with aeration to encourage airflow within the roots. 2:1 soil to perlite. Look for a 4” pot.
Just a random seed/weed. If little tiny sprouts shoot out randomly it’s just a weed seed. You just pluck it out.
