Good Morning gardening friends! Quoting another SMGB-er… This is a weekly blog with a fun vibe that often veers off gardening, so stop on by and join the conversation. We are here every Saturday at 9AM Eastern with new content and chit chat continuing throughout the week. All are welcome whether or not you garden, have houseplants, or just like to browse the photos. And we LOVE photos!
The flowers in the diary headline photo are Petunias planted in huge round planters in the nearby park walkway. They had a lovely smell. Big thanks to the parks and rec horticulture folks who fill these planters at the start of the warm weather.
I was browsing through my photos and saw that I had quite a few that I took in various parts of my neighborhood from my yard over to a community garden spot. So here’s some bright colored cheerfulness in this darkest time of the year. I hope you all have had a peaceful holiday season with good food and good people in your lives.
These were pretty much the last of my tomatoes. I let some dry out for seeds.

RATTLESNAKE POLE BEAN SEEDS DRYING. They’re so attractively marked and all look different.

Beets grown in a pot on my kitchen patio. They did very well in spite of a fair amount of shade. That was until a deer came along and nibbled off most of the big leaves. They like swiss chard so I shouldn’t have been surprised.

Lots of flowers! Roses from neighbors, the nearby church.

Love this color! Neighbor around the corner has been enlarging their front yard flower garden.

Dahlias and Sunflowers all from a neighbor down the street. With complimentary bees!

Also in the Dahlia growing neighbor’s yard. I have never seen these get so big. Maybe all the rain in the spring. There’s another bush on the other side of his driveway that was equally fabulous.

Same neighbor has these growing among the Dahlias and Sunflowers. And I am ALWAYS forgetting what they are. But the bees love ‘em!

Pink Anemones and bees in another yard. LOTS of bees on these flowers. It was quite a sight.

This from one of my most favorite yards a bit far flung from my house. It was just a perfect arrangement in the garden. I think it’s my favorite flower picture from this season.

On the west side of town is this community garden. One of my master gardener friends showed me around back in the summer. It’s being remodeled with more of those gray raised beds. There’s also an area made to be accessible to wheelchairs. When remodeling is complete next year, I’ll do a diary. It’s really nice.

I probably posted this back in November but couldn’t resist a big THANKS to all the growers who set up at the big north side regional market on Saturdays. It was such an abundance in the fall! I came away with lettuce, containers of sprouts. those striped winter squash (Carnival?), potatoes, turnips, beets, parsnips, onions, radishes, scallions. I so appreciate all their hard work, especially because the spring weather was so cold with too much rain. Gardening Warriors all!

Thanks to all of you for stopping by. I hope you had a chance to enjoy your own or other growers’ ybounty in your holiday meals.
Happy New Year and hoping all your garden dreams come true. 😍
