I need help. This is my first time trying to get some roots growing from corms, they’re sitting in some fluval stratum, I’ve poked little holes around these little cups and in the lids but it doesn’t seem to be working or do I lack patience ? Should I get some sphagnum moss ? Also they seem to be growing little fuzzy mold but this soil dries out so fast so I’m not sure how to mitigate that.

the stratum is too mushy. the corms or future roots won’t be able to breath and will rot. i do 50/50 fresh stratum and perlite. moss works too!

How long have they been in the stratum? Also, you might want to look into self-watering cups.

Agree the stratum you have is more like soil. For me, it finally started growing roots when I gave it humidity and heat. I covered them in small plastic cups and taped them together. Put that by one of the heaters in my house and it started growing in a couple weeks. Keep the stratum moist pretty much at all times without soaking it.

yeah that fluval looks a bit dense, i might move them into a mix of fluval + perlite. highly recommend giving them as high humidity as possible! i’ve used takeout food containers, just air them out every so often if you have them in a closed container.
