Winter gardening, gardening after a freeze, winter annuals, Texas zone 8 garden, cold weather planting — In this video, I’m doing some late winter gardening as I clean up my mother-in-law’s garden after a hard freeze and replant it with fresh winter color.

In this video, you’ll see:

What winter garden cleanup looks like after freeze damage

Which plants to remove vs. what can stay

The best winter annuals for color in cold weather

How I refresh garden beds without overworking the soil

Tips for planting in Texas Zone 8 during early winter

How to quickly bring life back to a tired winter garden

This is relaxed, realistic winter gardening — proof that even after a freeze, you can still bring beauty, color, and structure back into the garden.

  1. A lasting beautiful gift. 👩‍🌾. She will surely enjoy the color!
A few evergreens in pots would be nice. Green all year, give some height, she can place Christmas lights on them. So many new varieties stay smaller.

  2. Loved the garden. Can’t remember seeing the garden during the season (gonna go back to check). Augusta Duelberg Salvia is a beautiful small shrub— 😊❤

  3. ❤ Why no fertilizer? You usually throw some in each hole before you place each plant. Wish you would have shown this garden in it's prime.

  4. It was 4° here last week and the forecast is 75° on Christmas Day. Crazy weather in STL.
