Grill wall built as part of a $40k patio renovation. One wall is visibly curved. I’m happy with the rest of the project but the grill wall seems very sloppy to me.

I haven’t paid the final 20% yet and I’m inclined to withhold it until they get it fixed. The contractor says it’s fine. Am I being crazy to find this unacceptable?

You are not crazy. That should be taken out and redone.

Nope, I wouldn’t take it as a sign that they are poor contractors, but its certainly in the realm of something that should be fixed

Agreed, at that price its reasonable expectation. Just remember to be nice about it.

Is the other wall straight? They look similar to me from the pictures.

Can we see a new pic where the level is straight up and down? Looks like the block may be glued together which would be a real pain to redo.

Been doing this stuff for 48 years, unacceptable

Looks great: I wouldn’t complain. Who cares if it’s plumb.

You paid another man 40 gurr to build a stone cubby around your WSM?

They both appear curved to me. Almost looks intentional but if it’s supposed to be square make them fix that shit

That’s for drainage. That’s always the answer speaking of drainage. The ground isn’t level either. Plus, you are exaggerating-the level is not in the bubble. …. probably originally was gonna leave some overhang on both sides, with the little roof, but it probably didn’t look good. I would add some wide trim around the roof. Make it look thick it will be fine.

They look the same and like it’s done on purpose… hard to tell with these pictures but that’s looking intentional to me and I actually like it

Both sides DO appear to match. It’s your wall, so you should have it how you want it, but it looks intentional, IMO.

I wouldnt trust a level on its short end if I dont know if the specific block you have it resting on is true flat and 90. I think if you use a plumb bob you might get a more accurate picture

That’s just a cubby hole for a grill ? Staked stone wall and a plastic roof or is it more intricate than it looks. Dude should be able to fix it easily for you.

The level isn’t even close to plumb. You’re trying to make it look worse than it is. Plumb the level and let’s see what it looks like

That’s like 2” out of plumb on what looks like 3 feet of wall. I’m not a mason or a concrete guy but I could do a lot better with my “eye” level I could get you atleast an inch closer to plumb

Fyi plumb and level are not the same thing. 🤦🏼

I can’t believe your withholding 8k on the project and don’t know that difference…

Man some people…. Look at the bottom of the bubble on your “level” and perhaps this might be more clear to you …

Why don’t you take a picture with the level being Plumb.

    They almost look leaned intentionally.

    Level isn’t straight either…
