Aerate, machine or step on tool, to allow the soil to energize the aerobic fungus to create more nutrients. That’s really your best shot for a 3 day venture.

Why do you need to? It’s fine. It’s green and recently mowed.
There are weeds. So what? It’s functional and alive. The yard is accessible, you can play football in it, have a catch, let the dogs run around, etc.
There is nothing you can do in 3 days that won’t get destroyed by your in-laws in 3 weeks. Making any meaningful improvement to this lawn would take a month minimum, unless you get sod put down.
