ITV fans couldn’t believe it when Alan Titchmarsh “ruined” a couple’s garden on Love Your Garden – especially after elderly couple Rob and Margaret Isdale had fostered more than 150 children over the past 45 years. Their “lovely” garden in Grantham featured on the show as Alan and his co-stars Katie Rushworth, David Domoney and Frances Tophill tried to transform it into something inspired by The Secret Garden.
Initially, the space featured a large lawn area with a shed and concrete paving stones, surrounded by lush trees and greenery. Afterwards, it was transformed into a floral haven complete with a faux-ruined stone wall, stone paving stones leading in paths around the flowers, and wooden trellises around the side of the house.
But fans weren’t happy with the transformation, as one fumed: “Omg the Love Your Garden people ruining that lovely garden… with bricks and concrete! No thank you!”
Somebody else agreed: “It’s too crowded and busy for me but as long as they like it.”
Other fans were more complimentary, with one tweeting: “Oh god… Rob and Margaret on Love Your Garden, I’ve not cried like this in some time! Beautiful garden for beautiful people.”
For Rob and Margaret, the garden was perfect, and they told Alan: “Goodness me! It’s the best I’ve seen it looking. Thank you so much, I can’t believe it, it’s just…”
Alan joked: “We found the ruins of an old abbey in your garden,” as Margaret said: “Brilliant!”
Rob said: “I knew it would be special but that’s extra special. Thank you so much.”
In a sweet moment, some of the children the couple had fostered over the years made it onto the programme for a special family reunion.
